2001 Thanksgiving in Laughlin, NV

We put out the flag, and...

...said "bye bye" to Jasper (see, he knew something was up and wasn't going to be able to go with us) and headed for Lancaster to pick up Dorie...

Traffic this holiday weekend was "out of control", so after picking up Dorie, we simply drove across the Antelope Valley on a dirt road to Barstow. (We bypassed Victorville and the I-15 mess that way - worked perfectly.)

We stayed here at the Riverside Hotel. We were about half way up in the taller, front tower. Fairly nice hotel, but NO ROOM SERVICE!!!

Dorie used "alternate" transportation while in Laughlin, which allowed her to go wherever she wanted - even on this river boat tour - that is if she can find her ticket! (She did.)

Dona and Dorie - looking rested and happy as we begin the river tour, eh?

This was our river guide. Sounded like the typical speaker "MUSH"!

Dona and Fred with an afternoon "cooler"...

The river tour scattered the Mallards...

...on our way to Davis Dam (up river about a mile from the Hotel)

Well, we're looking, looking, looking...

There it is!!!

OK, so what is it? We never figured it out...

This is the new bridge to Arizona (Bullhead City, actually), which makes it very easy to cross over. Great new improvement.

Dona and Fred decided to drive up to Hoover Dam (near Las Vegas). We are still about a mile away from the dam here, but obviously we are not alone!!!

Now THAT is a very large dam.

Here's the WATER side...

Back in Laughlin we had the best dinner here at the Colorado Belle (which was recommended by a local person).

We had a great time. Dorie won some money ($1,000), we had a safe trip home (over that same dirt road) and were greeted by this super sunset over Anacapa Island.
